The 2024 season was a weird one for the Green Bay Packers. The team started extremely well, at 9-3, and was battling for the potential top seed in the NFC West playoffs. But the team finished by losing four of its last six games. Was this an indication that Green Bay was not actually as good as its early-season play implied?
Not likely. The four losses the Packers suffered at the end of the year were to some outstanding teams, except for the Chicago Bears in the final game of the season, a game that was meaningless before it even started.
Otherwise, Green Bay lost to the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings by a combined five points before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs.
Recent power ranking has high hopes for the Green Bay Packers in 2025
In 2025, the Packers should be able to compete for the NFC North title and a championship. The Lions lost many coaches, so they could be set back a bit by that, especially at the beginning of the season. The Vikings will be starting JJ McCarthy, who is basically a rookie as he was injured and did not play at all last season.
One recent power ranking by Lou Scataglia of NFL Spin Zone has high hopes for the Packers next season. Scataglia has the Packers ranked 8, second in the NFC North. As part of the write-up for Green Bay, Scataglia writes, "A team on the cusp of greatness, the Green Bay Packers could absolutely win the NFC North."
There is every reason to believe that Green Bay should be better in 2025. The team signed excellent left guard Aaron Banks in free agency, and should take a high-quality wide receiver in the 2025 NFL draft. This might not come in the first round (as this is the Packers we are talking about), but it could. A good wideout should be available in the second round, though.
The only potential negative for the Packers this offseason could be if the team trades two-time Second-Team All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander. Even that could turn into a positive if the team gets a decent return as far as a draft choice. Plus, whoever replaces Alexander is bound to stay healthier than he has in three of the last four seasons.
Ultimately, though, NFL teams rise and fall based on their head coach-quarterback combination. The Packers are in a good place there. Matt LeFleur has become one of the best coaches in the league, and Jordan Love is a top-10 quarterback. In other words, Green Bay is built to win now, and well into the future, too.
