Expect the unexpected in what is already becoming a wild offseason.
Whether it's the Cincinnati Bengals making the NFL sack champion available for trade or Myles Garrett demanding out before changing his mind to stay with the Cleveland Browns, the NFL has already provided plenty of drama in recent days. Free agency hasn't even started yet.
Then there is the return of Aaron Rodgers Watch. Where will the Green Bay Packers' former four-time MVP end up?
The New York Jets wasted no time shutting the door on their own Rodgers era, and Matthew Stafford's return to the Los Angeles Rams eliminated one dream landing spot.
In words that still feel surreal to type, various reports have indicated the Minnesota Vikings could make a move for Rodgers if they don't agree to a new deal with Daniel Jones. And their latest move may make it even more tempting for Rodgers to say yes.
Vikings re-signing Aaron Rodgers' former Packers teammate Aaron Jones will make his decision a little easier
As much as it hurts from a Packers' perspective, the Vikings have a lot they can offer Rodgers. Justin Jefferson is the best wide receiver in football, and Jordan Addison is the perfect complement. Add in Kevin O'Connell, an excellent play-caller and head coach who led the Vikings to a 14-3 record with Sam Darnold, and it's easy to see why the Vikings' vacancy could tempt Rodgers.
Minnesota has now made another smart move. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the Vikings have re-signed former Packers running back Aaron Jones to a two-year deal worth $20 million.
Rodgers and Jones are close friends, having spent six seasons together in Green Bay.
Jones enjoyed an excellent first season in Minnesota, rushing for 1,138 yards and five touchdowns, proving he is still one of the best at his position.
Bringing Jones back also makes the Vikings a more appealing destination for Rodgers. The Vikings will likely add another running back to pair with the former Pro Bowler, but they are setting the table with a deep receiving corps and a strong backfield. Signing Rodgers would turn Minnesota into a Super Bowl contender.
Some Packers fans would welcome a Rodgers move to Minnesota, but we should be careful what we wish for. Rodgers proved he could still play last season, throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in a far worse offensive system than the one he would inherit in Minnesota.
The Packers can only hope it doesn't happen. Rodgers' future aside, the Vikings re-signing Jones is a painfully smart decision.
