Two days after a catastrophic defeat in their home opener at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers have made another move to shore up the crumbling protection around Jordan Love.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers have signed offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson off of the Cowboys' practice squad, and the 11-year veteran guard will be heading to Green Bay to join his ninth NFL team.
Tomlinson, originally selected by the Detroit Lions with the 28th overall selection of the 2015 NFL Draft, has over 10,000 snaps logged at left guard over the course of his career.

His last season was spent with the Houston Texans, a team that was also facing monstrous offensive line questions at the time of bringing him in. He appeared in seven games for the Texans last season, but was released in December. Over those seven games, Tomlinson earned a 55.9 overall offensive grade, per Pro Football Focus.

With over 99 percent of Tomlinson's snaps coming at left guard over the course of his career, it's a fair bet that's where the Packers hope to slot him in on the line at some point. It's worth noting that Cordell Volson, who was also signed by the Packers a week ago, is also primarily a left guard.
It's possible that injuries sustained by Aaron Banks and/or Donovan Jennings might be more long-term than previously feared, and that is what prompted the move to add another left guard onto the roster.
Because Tomlinson was signed off the Cowboys' practice squad, he'll need to spend at least three weeks on Green Bay's 53-man roster. Look for a roster move to come soon in order to make room for Tomlinson, possibly in the form of moving Zach Bako-Bewele to injured reserve.
