Wild Packers trade idea would finally give them edge in NFC North title race

Sometimes the obvious trades are still the best ones.

It's been a while since we got nice and speculative on this here site about a fun Green Bay Packers trade.

For the last four months, the Packers have been involved in just about every major trade rumor, without a single one actually, you know, happening. They didn't even end up trading the one player people thought they would.

But there's still time. There's always time. Last I checked, the Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson had not agreed to a new contract yet. I know they're back at the table – according to ESPN, at least – but the Bengals are the Bengals and will always be the Bengals; something weird's going to happen.

Bleacher Report knows this, which is probably why they continue to bang the drum for Trey Hendrickson to the Packers. Someone's gotta!

Bleacher Report wants the Packers to trade for Trey Hendrickson, and I can't blame 'em

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report made bold predictions ahead of the new season, including the Packers beating their NFC North rivals to make a deal for Hendrickson.

"The most realistic scenario involves several NFC pass rush-needy contenders pursuing Hendrickson, as Cincinnati would probably want to avoid dealing him within the conference. It works out well that the Commanders, Packers and Lions are probably the teams that best fit the need profile here," writes Gagnon. "The Packers have more of a need here than the Lions and more cap room than the Commanders. Ergo, they win these sweepstakes."

I love how, all offseason, the internet has refused to let this rumor die. And it's not even really a rumor – I haven't seen any sort of NFL Insider talk about this materializing. Yet, we've all just trudged on as if the Packers are a 15-minute phone call away from hammering this out. Like clockwork, we talk about it, forget about it, and then rediscover the idea again a few weeks later. Honestly, it's delightful.

I've got no beef with this. Landing last year's sack leader and keeping him off the Lions? Sign me up.
