The Green Bay Packers are off to a 2-0 start, and many analysts have argued they look like the best team in the NFL. With plenty of people ready to throw unearned accolades and accomplishments the team’s way, the Packers are making it clear they aren’t feeding into any of the praise.
That was evident by some comments veteran safety Xavier McKinney shared with the media on Monday. Acknowledging the positive noise surrounding the Packers, the team captain reminded everyone that Green Bay hasn’t done anything yet. McKinney delivered the brutally honest message that a lot of teams start the year 2-0, and many of them end up being terrible by the end of the season.
"You can't feel like you've won the Super Bowl. Because it's a lot of mother f****** that start off 2-0, and late in the season they don't be worth s***"

Xavier McKinney reminds everyone that the Packers haven’t done anything yet
With 10 teams currently sitting at 2-0, several fans have pointed to the 2024 New Orleans Saints as an example of why everyone needs to pump their brakes. The Saints started the season 2-0, defeating the Carolina Panthers 47-10 and the Dallas Cowboys 44-19. Posting the kind of numbers that only Super Bowl-winning teams had recorded, New Orleans undoubtedly looked like the best team in the league. The Saints ultimately finished the season with a 5-12 record and fired their head coach in the middle of the year.
Situations like that are why McKinney, who’s now in his sixth season, knows there’s no reason to celebrate after two games. The season is just getting started, and as the veteran safety said, the team has plenty of more work to do. That work continues on Sunday when Green Bay plays the Cleveland Browns.
While the team stays focused, fans can be excited about the potential of the Packers. The offense and defense both look elite, and if the team stays healthy, it should be a contender late into the season. Still, the Packers have to prove it every week on the field.
