The Green Bay Packers will try to improve this roster as they maximize their championship window under Matt LaFleur, but they almost seem resigned to the fact that they will be losing backup quarterback Malik Willis to a team in need of someone new under center in 2026.
While Willis hasn't even thrown 100 passes during his time with the Packers, many around the league believe that he has shone brightly enough in his limited Green Bay action to warrant closer examination as a full-time starter. One team in the AFC might be willing to pay Willis' asking price.
FOX Sports wonders if Willis is going to link back up with former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who has become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. With Tua Tagovailoa's status up in the air, Miami may splash the cash for someone like Willis.
FOX also believes that Willis will be projected to receive a contract similar to the two-year, $40 million deal Justin Fields received from the New York Jets. Anyone who signs Willis, especially a cash-strapped team like Miami, better hope this contract ends up looking better than that of Fields.
FOX projects Packers QB Malik Willis will sign two-year contract with Dolphins
Willis has not only shown the tremendous playmaking on the move that made him such an interesting prospect coming out of college, but he has also been extremely efficient as a pocket passer. In the same way that Kyle Shanahan and Kevin O'Connell can claim to have fixed Sam Darnold, LaFleur can claim to have polished Willis.
The Dolphins will likely find it difficult to offload Tagovailoa's contract due to how intensive it is, but they need to find someone that Hafley can rely on under center. He has familiarity with Willis, and his play in Green Bay might warrant at least a shot at a QB1 role.

Willis shouldn't just take the first gig offered to him because of familiarity, however. The Dolphins don't have a very good offensive line, Tyreek Hill is going to be traded for more NFL Draft capital in the offseason, and Hafley is a first-time coach. Better situations may yet exist.
Willis will be starting somewhere in 2026, and it won't be Green Bay due to the presence of Jordan Love. It would be ideal for the Packers to keep someone of his caliber behind Love for as long as possible, but in the QB-barren NFL, such a future won't come to pass.
