Favre Refuses To Get Over Self

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, NFL, News, Packers, Rumors | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

Brett Favre wants to make one thing clear: He’s not a wishy-washy, high-maintenance, selfish diva who can’t make up his mind.
Of course Brett, talking to the New York Post like this is the best way to air your grievances.  Let’s see, “wishy-washy.”  I have to admit, you were bawling your eyes out at your retirement.  You do cry a lot.  That could rub people the wrong way with calling you “wishy-washy.”  But then again, crocodile tears might not count against you.  “High-maintenance.”  Hmm.  You know Brett, you did require quite a few press conferences in your days in Green Bay.  [...]

Game-by-Game Season Preview: Week 5

Week 5
Sunday, October 5, 2008
Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers
1 PM ET
Fox
If this game had taken place in 2007, there would be much more meaning behind this game, as the Falcons traded some quarterback to the Packers back in 1992 who did a bunch of things while playing 16 years for the Packers. But alas, that quarterback is gone from Green Bay, thus taking much of the mileage that commentators were going to get out of this game. Instead they are going to talk about Atlanta reversing some curse of trading the aforementioned quarterback. Nothing in the [...]

Packers End Preseason With Loss

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last night the Packers lost their final preseason game to the Tennessee Titans, 23-21, to end the preseason 1-3.  Don’t panic.  The New England Patriots finished 0-4.  As with last week’s game against the Denver Broncos, I was not able to watch any of this one, so I’m letting Packers.com take care of you again this week with this article.

Game-by-Game Season Preview: Week 4

Week 4
Sunday, September 28, 2008
Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1 PM ET
Fox
Going into this game, the Packers are either going to be high on momentum or utterly out of gas. They could lose two absolutely deflating games to the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, or they could be 3-0 with oh so much momentum. The Buccaneers are interesting adversary for this pivotal game as well. The former NFC Central rival did win the NFC South last season, but they won it with a record of 9-7 and they struggled down the stretch before losing in the [...]

Packers Cut Roster Down to 75

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The reaper has come to the Packers training camp and has already felled his first victims.  The Packers have cut their roster down to 75 players now.  Running back DeShawn Wynn, running back Ryan Powdrell, wide receiver Chris Francies, and offensive tackle Ryan Considine are no longer members of the Green Bay Packers.
The cutting of Wynn to a casual fan would be a surprise, as he performed well in 2007, but if you look closer, he had so many durability and toughness issues that his days in the green and gold were numbered.  He probably has the best chance to [...]

Game-by-Game Season Preview: Week 3

Week 3
Sunday, September 21, 2008
Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers
8:15 PM ET
NBC (I’m assuming)
Week 3 appears to be one of the biggest games on the schedules for the Packers.  Last year the Packers went down the Irving, Texas (wait, I thought they played in Dallas?) to meet the Cowboys in a battle of 10-1 teams.  Many thought this game would be a preview of the NFC Championship Game later in the season.  Unfortunately not, as the Cowboys blew the divisional playoff game against the eventual Super Bowl-champion New York Giants.  The Cowboys started out fast and the Packers could not [...]

Packers Beat the Broncos

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ah the ever pivotal third preseason game.  It’s supposed to be the real litmus test for team.  The Packers, despite beating the Denver Broncos 27-24, have mixed results.  I’ve barely had time to see or look any of this up, so I’ll let this article tell you.
Sounds like the O was good and Aaron Rodgers had a good game, but the D was shaky.  So there is some work to do.
Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans are up next.

Game-by-Game Season Preview: Week 2

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Detroit Lions, Gameday, NFC North, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Week 2Sunday, September 14, 2008
Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions
1:00 PM ET
FOX
For this Week 2 matchup, the Packers, fresh off of an emotionally draining 24-21 win over the Minnesota Vikings, travel southeast to the grand city of Detroit to take on the Lions. In recent years, the Packers have somewhat dominated the Lions, but they have had some close games as well. This should be a close game, as the Lions are young and developing (except for the quarterback position) and are hungry. Jon Kitna does think the team can win 10 games.

Game-by-Game Season Preview: Week 1

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Gameday, Minnesota Vikings, NFC North, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Now that preseason is nearing its end and writing about how so-and-so dropped a pass in practice is a little boring, I’ve decided to go through all 16 games on the schedule and look at how the Packers should do. Key word: should. Of course, once the season actually starts, I’ll follow up with an actual in-depth preview before game day. But let’s kill some time, shall we?
Week 1
Monday, September 8, 2008
Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
7 PM ET
ESPN
This game is what I would call “interesting.” Longtime Packers quarterback Brett Favre was supposed to get his [...]
