Rodgers’ Shoulder Uncertain

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Gameday, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The shoulder injury suffered in the third quarter of the Packers 30-21 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could keep Aaron Rodgers out of action for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.  There is no structural damage according to head coach Mike McCarthy.  McCarthy may sit Rodgers in favor of rookie Matt Flynn so Rodgers is rested for two important games against the Seattle Seahawks and the Indianapolis Colts in October.
People are started questioning Rodgers toughness, but it’s obvious that he has the toughness to be an NFL quarterback after his performance after his injury Sunday.

Buccaneers 30, Packers 21

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Gameday, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Packers just ran out of time against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.  The defense did everything everything they could to keep the team within striking distance, intercepting Bucs quarterback Brian Griese three times, but eventually broke in the fourth quarter when Buccaneers running back Ernest Graham broke off a 47-yard run to set up the clinching touchdown, a one-yard run, to seal the game for Tampa Bay at 30-21.  The defense did everything they could to keep the game close, including Charles Woodson’s 62-yard interception for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to stake a 21-20 lead.  However, [...]

Detroit Lions Severely Disappoint Packers

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Detroit Lions, NFC North, Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Well, Packers fans, the last seven years of rolling over the hapless Detroit Lions could be coming to the end with the firing of Lions GM Matt Millen.  The years of Millen taking wide receivers and offensive players in the first round, stunting the growth of the team and making an easier division opponent for the Packers to play twice a year are over.  The Packers may have to deal with a GM of consequence now.
Time will tell.
I’m disappointed in the Ford family for finally realizing their folly.

Injury Bug Bites Secondary

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Gameday, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

The Packers secondary is undersiege by the injury bug.  It doesn’t seem like there’s anyway around it.  The entire starting secondary plus some backups are listed on the injury report this week.
Despite having five defensive backs on the injury report, only one, corner Al Harris, is expected to miss Sunday’s game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Harris is out until God-knows-when because of a spleen injury.  Charles Woodson is listed on the injury report with his broken toe, which he played with and performed admirably on Sunday night.  Atari Bigby, who missed Sunday’s game, is not expected to play Sunday [...]

Harris’ Return Remains Open

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Breaking News, Gameday, NFL, News, Packers, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Packers cornerback Al Harris is seeking third- and fourth-opinions on his ruptured spleen, an injury he suffered in Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.  Unless something drastic happens, Harris will most likely not need season-ending surgery on the injury.  The uncertainty of Harris’ injury creates a quandry for the Packers, as Harris creates dead weight on the 53-man roster.  Putting Harris on injured reserve would free up a roster slot, but would also make Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy look extremely stupid if Harris would heal fast enough to make a return for the playoff push, but not be [...]

Cowboys 27, Packers 16

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Gameday, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Aaron Rodgers is no longer undefeated as a starter.  But that’s not the point.  The Packers were strictly outplayed by the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, losing 27-16.
There is really no one place to stick the blame for this one.  The defense did allow Marion Barber to rush for 142 yards on 28 carries.  The offense only managed one touchdown that came late in the fourth quarter.  Mike McCarthy’s coaching was not its usual genius self.  The blame focuses itself the most on the team missing opportunities.  Through the first three quarters of play, the Packers were held to nine [...]

Don’t look back

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The NFL season would not be complete without a Packers team in the mix for the NFC North title and a playoff run. Fans feared that the decision to send Brett Favre to the New York Jets would start a Babe Ruth-esque curse that would haunt the franchise for decades and bring the team back to the ‘70s and ‘80s.
Fans had their doubts about a quarterback who had such a tough road to the NFL just to be a back up. Well, Aaron Rodgers has proven to be a very capable captain under [...]

Cowboys @ Packers

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Gameday, NFL, Packers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

6:43 PM – About one and a half hours until gametime. I have to go out for a Sunday class and probably won’t be back to update this until around 8:45 or 9. So until then, crack open a cold one, leave some comments, and discuss those Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.
9:09 – I pick up the action with 12:34 left in the second quarter as Mason Crosby nails a field goal to give the Packers a 6-3 lead over the Cowboys.
9:13 – One of the most ridiculous plays ever, as Tony Romo escapes a sack, throws [...]

Dallas Cowboys (2-0) @ Green Bay Packers (2-0)

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Detroit Lions, Gameday, Minnesota Vikings, NFC North, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Tonight the marquee matchup of the first three weeks of the season occurs with Dallas Cowboys headed to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers.  This is the only game in Week 3 between two 2-0 teams.  Because The Landry Hat has accused me of blatant homerism, I have decided to divide this blog up into two sections: the down-to-earth, level-headed section (although nothing is ever level-headed with the Cowboys) and the mildly homeristic section.  Enjoy it.
The Level-Headed Section:
Both teams, as stated before, are 2-0.  The Cowboys have achieved their record by dispatching the Cleveland Browns 28-10 on [...]

Barnett Being Watched By League

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Packers starting middle linebacker Nick Barnett is under intense scrutiny by the league offices this week.  In the first two games of the 2008 season, Barnett has already racked up three fines, although one, stemming from an off-the-field altercation is not game-related.  The other two, however, are.
The first one came in the Packers Monday Night Football triumph over the Minnesota Vikings, when Barnett horse-collared a Vikings player.  That total came to $7,500.  Then, against the Detroit Lions last Sunday, Barnett was fined for a shoulder-to-helmet hit on Lions quarterback Jon Kitna.  That fine came to $7,500 as well.  Barnett had [...]
