Aaron Rodgers: The Man

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Breaking News, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Packers reaffirmed their faith in Aaron Rodgers today, signing the young quarterback to a contract extension through the 2014 season.  That’s right folks, Rodgers is the quarterback for the next six seasons.  Rodgers will be about 31 when the contract ends, allowing plenty of development for the 24-year-old.  Packers GM Ted Thompson had this to say:
“As we talked about in the past, we try to be proactive in our discussions with our current players and we felt like this was an appropriate time to try to come to an agreement with Aaron.  We feel like this is good for [...]

Packers Bye Week Report

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Chicago Bears, Gameday, Minnesota Vikings, NFC North, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The following was written by Packers fan and associate of mine, Eric S., also known as Cheezhead.  He was kind enough to type up a position-by-position analysis of the Packers so far this season for me for the bye week.  I am extremely grateful to him for this.  Your thoughts?
QUARTERBACKS
Going into this season, the Green Bay Packers had a huge question mark at quarterback. Brett Favre was dealt to the New York Jets and all the team had to fill in for him at starting quarterback was two rookie quarterbacks and one unproven, rarely played quarterback. Well, that unproven, rarely [...]

Week 8 Breakdown by The Viking Age

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, NFC North, NFL, News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As it does each week, The Viking Age has broken down the NFC North.  I have to give them props this week, as the Detroit Lions were the only team in action.
The words on the Packers:
Green Bay Packers (4-3):
Looking Back: A bye week for the Packers. Luckily the Jets were playing so the fans had something to watch. Favre had a spotty game but pulled it out in typical Favre fashion. The Jets are only 4-3 so Packer fans needn’t feel they’re really missing anything. Aaron Rodgers looks just about as good as Favre right now and he’s lots [...]

Clash of the Titans

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: NFL, News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Last night, the Tennessee Titans pulled off a stunning comeback, scoring 24 unanswered points en route to a 31-21 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.  Jody, over on Titan Sized, has put together some great game notes, giving all us Packer fans slumbering through our bye week (or Phillies fans slogging through a rain delay) a chance to see what happened in Nashville.
All I have to say is that next Sunday’s matchup is shaping up to be a great one.  The Packers seem to have some upset magic in them and Aaron Rodgers will see the biggest test of his life [...]

Packers Politics

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Wondering who you’re favorite Packer is donating money to for this election?
Well Jacksonville Jaguars blogger Jeanne over at Black & Teal is doing some research on who is donating their money where and just got to the Packers in her latest installment.  Although only one Packer is specifically mentioned, it is still worth checking out.
Along with that, the Journal-Sentinel has a good piece on the effect of the election on the Packers and their locker.  Pro athletes are usually stereotyped as rather selfish, so it’s good to see their opinions and the fact they actually have valid opinions behind their [...]

Welcome to the Newest Member of the Packers Family

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: None Yet

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and his wife Jessica had their first child, a girl, Gabrielle Kathleen on Wednesday morning.
The family is in good health, and it’s great this is a bye week.
Congratulations to the new mom and dad.

Rock the Vote!

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: NFL, News, Off-Topic/Other, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

No, I’m not getting political.  Unless you mean political for your Packers.  VOTE HERE for Packers safety Nick Collins for the GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Week!
Green Bay’s NICK COLLINS returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown on the Colts’ first play of the second half to set the tone for the Packers’ 34-14 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Collins totaled a tackle and two defensed passes.
Collins needs your votes.  That was a game-changing play, giving the Packers a much safer 24-7 lead instead of the [...]

More Favre Drama For Your Mama

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Brett Favre, Detroit Lions, NFC North, NFL, News, Packers, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Yes, your favorite person to read about is back in the news.
According to a FOX Sports report by Jay Glazer, former Packers quarterback Brett Favre called the Detroit Lions before the Packers played in Detroit on September 14, a 48-25 win for the Packers.  Glazer first broke this story on “FOX NFL Sunday”:
“Favre called the Detroit Lions, starting off with (former Detroit general manager) Matt Millen,” Glazer said. “Matt Millen then put him in touch with the coaching staff and gave the coaching staff like an hour or a 90-minute dissertation, every single thing that the Green Bay Packers do [...]

Packers 34, Colts 14

AUTHOR: djlombardi | IN: Aaron Rodgers, Gameday, NFL, News, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Aaron Rodgers outplayed Peyton Manning on Sunday.
Ever think we’d be saying that?
Well it happened Sunday, as Rodgers went 21-of-28 for 186 yards and one touchdown, while Manning went 21-of-42 for 229 yards and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns by the Packers.  The Packers jumped out to a 17-7 on the Indianapolis Colts halftime lead and never looked back.
The real story of Sunday’s game is the re-emergence of Ryan Grant, who had been basically useless for the first part of the season.  Grant carried the ball 31 times, unheard of for this season, gained 105 yards and [...]
