Must Win

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

34 degrees with snow is a bitter cold afternoon. For the Green Bay Packers, a loss would make the day more chilling and the possibility of a playoff birth in the NFC will be all but mathematically over. This is the game that matters most to the Packers. It’s the first “must win” of the season. A quick hop over the Western border is why this game becomes so important. With the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears battling it out for first place, a loss by the Packers will put them 2 game behind the division leader. At 5-6 [...]

Things Packers Fans Should Be Thankful For

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving Packer Fans! My name is Scott Allen.  I am lead blogger for the Arizona Cardinals site, Raising Zona.  I am subbing this weekend for Daniel while he was called away on family business.  I hope you and your friends and family are finding many things to be thankful for on this holiday.  As a Cardinals fan, I have plenty to be thankful for this season.  As an outsider looking in, If I were a Packers fan, there are several things I think Packers fans should be thankful for. Let’s start with Aaron Rodgers.  I know [...]

A Head of Cheez: Week 11

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, NFL, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s looking like 2007 again, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Green Bay Packers offense is back on track. Aaron Rodgers played the gunslinger role effectively, and Ryan Grant is finally playing like he did late last season. It was make or break, do or die, win or go home, in a sense. The Packers were playing aginst divisional the rival Chicago Bears, and they had to beat the Bears to keep the NFC North title in their reach. A loss and a drop to 4-6 wouldn’t have been too good, but luckily the Packers came [...]

Grant Back On Track

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

One thing was dramatically different about the statline of the Packers following Sunday’s win against the Chicago Bears: Ryan Grant was over 100 yards on the ground.  For the first time since Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts, Grant broke the century mark.  Unlike the game against the Colts where he had a mere 105 yards rushing, Grant smashed the 100-yard mark, rushing for 145 yards and scoring a touchdown.  The rushing department has been sorely lacking, due mostly in part to Grant, of whom big things were expected coming into this season.  Grant has disappointed, averaging only 3.9 yards [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

The folks over at NFL.com are ever so nice to provide bloggers with video previews every week for the upcoming slate of games.  I’ve neglected to post some of these for any game, but with me being behind in my blogging, I feel this is an appropriate time.  Hat-tip to Kenneth Pordon for keeping me updated. Week 12: Packers vs. Saints Preview Weather Update: Packers vs. Saints Injury Update: Reggie Bush Ryan Grant Interview NFC North Logjam [Mike] McCarthy on Defensive TDs I don’t really see the point for the weather updates…the Saints do play in a dome…

Slacking

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

I’d really like to apologize for not being able to keep my posts up here at Lombardi Ave.  Life’s busy and sometimes it’s hard to find time for these things.  I’m really sorry and am really, really, legitimately trying to blog here every day. In any major Packers news, the Packers thrashed the Chicago Bears, 37-3, bringing their record to 5-5 and creating a three-way tie for first in the NFC North with the Bears and Minnesota Vikings.  The Packers rebounded nicely after two tough losses to the Tennessee Titans and Vikings. Now the Packers head south for a Monday [...]

Make or Break

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

I hate labeling games as must-win games.  I absolutely hate it.  It’s the last thing I want to do.  It adds almost too much importance onto an already important situation.  However, the Packers must-win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, a “make-it or break-it” game, in my point of view.  The Packers sit at 4-5 in the NFC North with the Bears tied with the Minnesota Vikings at 5-4 atop the divison.  If the Packers win, they are guaranteed to stay in second place and could possibly tie for first if the Vikings lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday. [...]

A Head of Cheez: Week 10

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Packers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The streak is over. Back in the 2005-06 season, when the Green Bay Packers went 4-12, the Minnesota Vikings beat the Packers in Week 11 by three, 20-17. After that, Green Bay won five straight games against the Minnesota. They were two points away from making it six in a row Sunday. In the Packers Bye Week Report, I stated that the passing game is what really keeps Green Bay rolling on offense. Well, the passing game was sub-par against Minnesota. Aaron Rodgers really didn’t seem like his normal self, putting up a mere 142 yards on a 15-26 clip. [...]

Barnett Done For Year

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL, Packers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Packers middle linebacker and soul of the defense Nick Barnett is done for the season after suffering a torn ACL in the third quarter of the Packers 28-27 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.  Barnett has been the team’s leading tackler in four out of the last five seasons. It is reported that he should be ready for training camp next year following six to eight months of rehabilitation and provided there are no complications from his surgery. Despite having Barnett in the lineup, the Packers have struggled mightily against the runnnig game this year, rankings 28th in yards [...]
