Is Cole Gone?
It appears the Packers could miss out on defensive tackle Colin Cole, who looks poised to end up with the Seattle Seahawks or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. From JSOnline: The Packers are letting the market dictate what Cole is worth rather than pushing ahead with a deal that might wind up being richer than what it should be. The risk is that they’re allowing other teams to come in and woo Cole away. It’s likely Cole’s agent, Neil Cornrich, won’t give the Packers a hometown discount given they had their chance to sign him before free agency started. The Seattle [...]
Open Season
Free agency kicks off in a matter of hours, meaning that chaos is about to ensue. Will Albert Haynesworth get the largest contract in history? What about the Packers? What will they do? Only time will tell. Hopefully I’ll be able to make some sense of this mess tomorrow.
Packers Draft Board, v.1
Every week I’ll rank the Top 5 to Top 10 prospects for the Packers first round pick, the ninth overall, in the 2009 NFL Draft. Also, there are no offensive players in here. Some more will probably work their way in when free agency sorts out some of the defensive question marks, but right now because of the 3-4 switch, 1. B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College – Raji is a big space-filling defensive tackle that the Packers need to anchor their 3-4 defense for years to come. Raji can move (5.13 40) for a big man and showed talent while [...]
Jenkins Disappoints, Is Slipping
Ohio State cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, whom most people have the Packers picking with their No. 9 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, may have ran himself out of that spot with his performance at the 2009 NFL Combine. Jenkins underwhelmed scouts with his speed, which was measured between 4.52 and 4.59 in the 40-yard dash. ESPN/Scouts, Inc.’s Todd McShay said today on NFL Live that Jenkins could be more suited to play safety in the NFL, a position the Packers are already set at. Why is speed such an important commodity for the Packers? Well with the switch from the [...]
More On Lewis And Scott
I took some time to read over what I posted yesterday about the possibility of Baltimore Ravens linebackers Ray Lewis and Bart Scott wearing Packers uniforms next season, and I realized that there is one thing I missed that should be addressed. The Ravens are obviously going to make Lewis their top priority. There is no way they cannot make him a number two based on all he has done for the team and the impact he has on his teammates and the organization. The first thing the Ravens will attempt to do in free agency is sign Lewis to [...]
Ray Lewis To Packers?
Could the Packers go after Baltimore Ravens stalwart middle linebacker Ray Lewis to help revamp their defense to their new 3-4 scheme? With the news today about Lewis calling DeMarcus Ware for Jerry Jones‘ phone number, Lewis looks primed to end up with the Dallas Cowboys (or as I like to call it, “The Land of Tools,” where Lewis definitely belongs). However, that doesn’t mean we can’t look at the possibility of Lewis coming to Green Bay. The Packers need a leader. It had always been Brett Favre‘s locker room, but that ship has sailed. Aaron Rodgers leads more by [...]
Favre Retires…Finally
Today former Packers quarterback Brett Favre announced he was retiring from the NFL and the New York Jets. Before I say anything else, I’d like to say “Good riddance. I used all my superlatives on you last year.” But anyway, Favre is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time, meant a lot to Green Bay, was loved by the media, an all-around good guy, yada yada yada. You know the drill. ESPN gets on him for a little bit, and soon enough they’ll be off. Until, of course, they start speculating about how he’ll go to the Minnesota Vikings. But [...]
More Favre Talk
Ah, Packers fans, it’s that all too familiar time of year again. Except, this time, however, we get to watch the spectacle concerning former Packers great Brett Favre and his decision on whether or not he will retire from the game of football. This time, his victim is the New York Jets. Rumor has it the Jets wants Favre’s decision in ten days, to give them time to alter their scouting for the NFL Combine. The Jets currently have Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff as their quarterbacks behind Favre. If the Jets wide receivers could catch, Clemens could be seen [...]
Changes To McCarthy’s Staff
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced today that the Packers coaching staff for next season has been filled out. The staff is headlined by new defensive coordinator Dom Capers, new defensive line coach Mike Trgovac, and new outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene. But the rest of the newcomers: Defensive Coordinator: Capers Special Teams Coordinator: Shawn Slocum Strength & Conditioning Coordinator: Dave Redding Inside Linebackers: Winston Moss Outside Linebackers: Greene Defensive Line: Trgovac Safeties: Darren Perry Cornerbacks: Darren Whitt, Jr. Assistant Special Teams: Curtis Fuller Offensive Quality Control: John Rushing Defensive Quality Control: Scott McCurley Here’s to hoping that these new [...]
DJ’s Super Bowl XLIII Prediction
I woke up this morning and it felt like Christmas. It’s Super Bowl Sunday. The day that the last year has built up to. Ever since Eli Manning and the New York Giants slew the dragon that was Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Phoenix in Super Bowl XLII, everything that has happened has gravitated towards this moment. Sure, my team isn’t in Super Bowl XLIII, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be excited to watch it. It’s the teams that have survived the grind that is the NFL season. And the storylines are pretty damn good as [...]
