Jerry Kramer … sign the petition supporting his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

AUTHOR: | IN: Kramer in HOF | COMMENTS: None Yet

OK folks, it’s been 44 years since The Ice Bowl. Today is the anniversary of that tremendous day. We all remember the right guard who threw “the” block in that game to give Bart Starr the path into the end zone to win one of the epic games of the past 50 years in the NFL. His name is Jerry Kramer. The question is, why isn’t this man in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? He does have a place in the Packers Hall of Fame, but not Canton. There is a website being run by his daughter, Alicia - http://www.jerrykramer4hof.com, [...]

The Ice Bowl and so much more

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers history | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today is a special day in Green Bay Packers history. Dec. 31, 1967, was Vince Lombardi’s final game at Lambeau Field … It was also the day the Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys for the NFL Championship in what is now known as The Ice Bowl. Everyone was there, if not in body, certainly in spirit. We all know what transpired on that day. We know about the turf that flash froze into something that resembled an ice skating rink more than a football field; we know about how the Packers took a quick lead, but lost it when Dallas’s [...]

The weather report for Dec. 31, 1967 – remember where you were?

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers weather | COMMENTS: None Yet

This has got to be one of the coolest posts by the National Weather Service. It was Dec. 31, 1967, and we all know where we were. Me? I was at George Steffen’s house … with my Dad and my brother, Francis. It was damn cold outside … I don’t remember if our red Pontiac station wagon ever warmed up during the 1.5 mile ride into town to watch the NFL Championship Game that day … you remember the one – it featured the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys and has gone down in league lore as one [...]

Dom Capers tells it like it is

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers, Packers vs. Lions | COMMENTS: None Yet

Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers has gone on record about his 31st ranked defense, saying that it’s never too late to rectify a poor performance because each week is a different outing and a new situation. He said there have been positives and negatives with his squad this year, but that it was his squad’s ability to keep opposing teams out of the end zone and to take the ball away from them were the two keys that have helped the Packers win 14 games to date. How will McCarthy handle the starters against the Lions

AUTHOR: | IN: Mike McCarthy | COMMENTS: None Yet

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is doing a great job at not showing his hand when it comes to who he will play and who he will sit this coming Sunday when the Detroit Lions visit Lambeau Field for the final regular season game. So, does he go all out and play every starter with the goal to win the game? Does he rest all his starters and give the reserves a chance to shine? Does he play the starters for a given number of snaps and get them out of the game? You make the call: Take [...]

Dominic Raiola: We’re not all simple

AUTHOR: | IN: Detroit Lions | COMMENTS: None Yet

Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola has been around long enough that you might think he would have a better handle on how to head into an NFL stadium, especially when that stadium is Lambeau Field. Apparently he hasn’t figured out that the fans of the Green Bay Packers are among the league’s most knowledgeable, dedicated and devoted to their team. Yes, they wear things like cheese heads and take their shirts off to enjoy the game … and it doesn’t matter if it’s a preseason game in August or the final game of the regular season in January. So, it’s [...]

Look who’s stepping up for the 49ers – Brett Swain

AUTHOR: | IN: Former Packers players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hey take a look over at what’s going on in San Francisco … do you remember Brett Swain? You should … he was on the Packers roster last year and received some significant playing time at the end of the season when Green Bay was riding its meteoric arc toward its first championship in 14 years. After Swain was cut with two weeks to go in training camp back in August, he parted ways amicably with the Packers … understanding that the business and the depth of talent at his position on the roster prompted the move by Green Bay. [...]

Al Harris calls it quits

AUTHOR: | IN: Former Packers players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Al Harris spent 8 years with the Packers. One of toughest players ever to don a Green Bay Packers uniform has called it quits. Al Harris, the Packers cornerback who beat up receivers for eight years while in Green Bay, was injured in November while playing with the St. Lois Rams against the Cleveland Browns. The Rams announced today that Harris would be retiring because of the injury. Harris confirmed that announcement when talking to the press. “That’s just God’s way of telling me it’s time for me to turn the page,” Harris said. “I had an awesome time. I [...]

That’s the most Pro Bowlers from one Packers team selected to the Pro Bowl since 1967 … another not-too-shabby team from Green Bay. In recognizing the seven players’ accomplishments, the Packers PR department released the following press release outlining each of the selections’ accomplishments in this season where the team now stands at 14-1 with one game left in the regular season. With their win Sunday night against the Bears, the Packers secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs. [...]
