Of the Green Bay Packers’ free agents, who will re-sign and who will depart?

This is a difficult time of year for NFL general managers, as a selection of each team’s roster is set to hit free agency, and determining which players deserve new contracts can be tough.

Green Bay Packers GM Ted Thompson has a number of difficult decisions to make between now and March 9 – the day all pending free agents’ contracts expire. There’s only so much money to go around, but a case can be made to re-sign just about every player set to leave.

Among the Packers’ pending free agents are Mason Crosby, Nick Perry, Casey Hayward and Mike Neal. That’s before even getting onto players like James Starks, James Jones and John Kuhn – all of whom were important parts of the Green Bay offense in 2015.

Before even considering which outside free agents to look at, it’s important to ensure you bring back the right guys on your own team and free up cap room by letting expendable players leave. Thompson has always done an excellent job at keeping the Packers’ cap healthy, meaning core players are usually re-signed.
