When healthy, Clay Matthews is one of the best edge rushers in the game, but for the fifth season in a row, the Packers lack a second effective pass rusher at the position.

Both Mike Neal and Nick Perry have a lot of potential, but neither have remained healthy this season. Perry has been dealing with a foot injury for a majority of the year, which has limited his snaps, and Neal has been dealing with an abdominal strain.

It’s tough to say how much these injuries have affected their performance on the field. At times, Neal and Perry have looked great, while other times they’ve completely disappeared in games.

The Packers need more consistency at this position, especially if Matthews continues to miss time every season due to injury. Maybe a healthy Perry and a Neal with another year at the position under his belt will develop into starting-caliber outside linebackers.

But given the health of the position as of late, the Packers could use more edge rushers on the roster. Andy Mulumba and Nate Palmer have been just okay in limited snaps this season.

In a 3-4 defense, you can never have enough players that can rush the passer.
