SPECIAL TEAMS: Will a “real” returner step up?
With Mason Crosby redeeming himself in 2013, the Packers are set kicker, punter, and long snapper. Now, the question remains, if they’ll find a legitimate returning threat going into the 2014 season.
Hyde played admirably late in the season as a punt returner, but the Packers never quite seemed to find their kick returner.
I would expect a heated camp battle between Jared Abbrederis, Jeff Janis, and Myles White for this spot. The Packers would probably also like to get Hyde off of returning punts as he plays a bigger role on defense.
Abbrederis seems to be a natural heir apparent at returner, but Janis and White both have the breakaway speed to be a dangerous weapon on special teams.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out prior to the 2014 season. Reserve backs Neal and Hill and young defensive backs Goodson and Jumal Rolle may also get looks at returner as well.
