2014 Green Bay Packers 53-Man Roster

Green Bay Packers rookie tight end Richard Rodgers could be the starter Sept. 4 at Seattle. Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Tight End (4)

Starter: Richard Rodgers

Backups: Andrew Quarless, Brandon Bostick, Ryan Taylor

Cut: Jake Stoneburner, Justin Perillo

Injured Reserve: Colt Lyerla

Rodgers has started with the first unit the past two preseason games and seems poised for the starting tight end role. He has made a handful of nice catches in the preseason but has been relatively quiet otherwise. Rodgers still has a ways to go as a blocker and isn’t a three-down player yet.

Quarless has had his moments this summer, but he’s also had a few drops and been overmatched at times as a blocker. I expect Quarless and Rodgers to split time at tight end until Bostick returns from injury in a few weeks.

Up until leaving the St. Louis game with a lower leg injury, Bostick clearly looked like the best tight end on the roster and has the best chance of being the Packers’ playmaker at the position. Taylor is the best run blocker of the group and has flashed some ability in the passing game, but he’ll earn a roster spot because he plays a key role on special teams.

Stoneburner and Perillo have both looked solid and will get practice squad consideration.
