TEs – Andrew Quarless, Richard Rodgers

Last Week:
Quarless – 2 catches, 50 yards; 5.00 fantasy points
Rodgers – 1 catch, 1 yards, 1 TD; 6.10 fantasy points

Okay, I must admit I was impressed by these guys last week. They weren’t like Gronkowski out there or anything, but these two steps up with some key plays in a close game and they should get some deserved kudos.

Quarless has the longest Packers catch on the day (34 yards) in a 2 catch, 50-yard effort, while Rodgers managed to catch the longest and most open 1-yard TD catch I’ve probably seen. They each even had a totally-not-terrible day in fantasy. Hurrah!

So the question now becomes: what can we expect going forward? Well…that’s where I’m still down on them a bit. It’s hard enough to predict these two combining for a decent TE fantasy production, much less predict either doing well enough on their own to warrant fantasy attention. Even still, then picking the one who’ll do better is nigh impossible.

But…given the circumstances in play, I really expect a third target to emerge big-time against the Patriots in the passing game. My first expectation falls to Adams as the 3rd WR, but it isn’t inconceivable that one of these two could also take advantage of the focus being heavily laid onto Nelson and Cobb.

So which to pick? I’d say Quarless. While Rodgers got the touchdown last week, it was Quarless who was making the impact across the rest of the field. He almost had that TD himself anyway, so based on his usage he’s the better bet. Either way, I see one of these two grabbing a red-zone TD against light coverage; time will tell if I’m right, and if Quarless is the one to benefit this time.

Prediction:
Quarless – 4 catches, 30 yards, 1 TD; 9 fantasy points
Rodgers – 2 catch, 10 yards; 1 fantasy point

Verdict: Emergency Start (Quarless); Do Not Start (Rodgers)
