Mason Crosby

Good kickers can be taken for granted, not fully appreciated until they’re gone. If Mason Crosby leaves Green Bay this offseason, there’s no guarantee the Packers will be able to find a reliable kicker for 2016. They almost certainly won’t get one as consistent as Crosby – especially in the postseason.

Crosby set an NFL record in 2015 for most consecutive field goal conversions in the playoffs after putting through his 20th straight in the loss to Arizona. How impressive is that? In the postseason – when everything is on the line – Crosby has stepped up and put it through the uprights.

Two of his most recent kicks have had the weight of Wisconsin behind them. Remember when the Packers were down 22-19 with 14 seconds remaining in regulation in the NFC Championship Game with Seattle? Who forced overtime? That’s right: Crosby. Battling the elements on a cold, windy day in Seattle, Crosby made no mistake from 48 yards out.

He faced a similarly daunting task in Arizona this past January. Packers fans were jubilant after Aaron Rodgers connected with Jeff Janis on one of the most outstanding Hail Mary plays in NFL history to not only save the game, but the season. That was, of course, so long as Crosby could hit the not-so-easy PAT. Could he convert? Silly question.

Ted, pay this man.
