Round 1: WR Corey Coleman, Baylor

Admittedly, it was tough selecting a wide receiver to the Packers in the first round. But allow me to make the case.

When looking at the wideouts potentially available to the Packers in the later rounds, nobody quite seemed to fit like Corey Coleman. Many receivers either lack top speed to take the top off a defense or are destined for a full-time role in the slot. Neither is going to give the offense much of an upgrade.

Coleman ticks a number of boxes. He’s big enough at 5-foot-11, and he has an excellent vertical leap to go get 50/50 balls. Coleman has blazing speed that helps him instantly break free into space. His smooth route running and quickness also makes him a threat deep down the field which is something the Packers lacked without Nelson.

Coleman would offer the Packers with versatility. He can make plays on the outside but could also cause teams nightmares in the slot.

Just because selecting a wide receiver in the first round isn’t a move Ted Thompson has made historically, it doesn’t mean he won’t do it this year if Coleman is at the top of his board.
