DT Jarran Reed, Alabama

Jarran Reed is one of the best pure run-stuffers the draft has to offer. The Packers need to get better against the run, and the Alabama product would go a long way to helping the defense do exactly that. Reed offers versatility as he can play at either defensive tackle or end, and he would give Dom Capers a dominant two-gap lineman to work with.

In Green Bay, he could slot in as the nose tackle next to Mike Daniels and Letroy Guion. His power up front and ability to eat up blockers would appeal to the Packers. According to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, Reed didn’t allow a single broken tackle and also didn’t miss any in 2015.

Dominating up front is the next step the Packers defense needs to make. Adding a force like Reed who can stuff the run and keep the linebackers clean will go a long way to helping the unit become a top-ten defense.

Holding Reed back is his pass rush, which is OK but not exceptional. There are concerns he’s just a run-stuffer, but I think he has the potential to be much more than that. Reed could be an anchor at the heart of the Green Bay defense.
