Having the final call in drafting players in the early rounds isn’t for the faint of heart. All the preparation and experience in the world can’t always protect you from coming up empty in making your signature picks.

The Packers have made their share of gaffes throughout their history with players who were slated to be cornerstone pieces, but did nothing but shatter the hearts of diehard Cheeseheads. Here’s a starting lineup of athletes with this dubious distinction.

QB RICH CAMPBELL 1st Rd. (6)- 1981: Sort of ironic that the biggest quarterback bust in Packers history played for the same school as Aaron Rodgers. It wasn’t a good sign for Campbell when his own offensive coordinator said that he had neither the arm strength nor skills to be a pro passer following his rookie year.

Unwilling to bite the bullet and cut their losses, Green Bay chose to keep the Cal product around for four years, most of which he spent as a third-string quarterback. Campbell entered a seminary and became a Baptist minister after leaving the NFL.
