Round 4 (131): OG Spencer Drango, Baylor

Compensatory picks have become a staple of the Packers’ draft-and-develop philosophy, and they have been awarded two more this year, both in the fourth round. With the first, Thompson is able to double up along the offensive line with guard Spencer Drango out of Baylor.

Drango was a four-year starter at left tackle for Baylor but will likely be a better fit at either right tackle or one of the guard spots in the NFL. This versatility would make him a valuable asset, particularly for a team like Green Bay which is in desperate need of depth along the line.

Not only are tackles Bakhtiari and Tretter set to hit free agency a year from now, but also guards T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton. The Packers have been spoiled by the duo of Lang and Sitton for years now, both unsung heroes at the heart of the offensive line. They regularly play through injuries and at a high level consistently.

It’s unlikely both return and we can likely expect just one of the pair to remain a Packer in 2017. That opens up a spot. Lane Taylor could be groomed into a starter, but it would be wise to add more talent at the position a year ahead of time.
