Round 1 (27): DT Andrew Billings, Baylor

Those of you who have read my articles over the past month know how much I love the thought of Andrew Billings to Green Bay. Billings is a dominant nose tackle and one of the best defensive linemen the draft has to offer.

As it happens, the Packers have a need at the position. This was the case already at the start of the offseason but has only been further increased with the four-game suspension of Mike Pennel paired with the retirement of B.J. Raji. The Packers lack depth along the line and desperately need more bodies up front.

That’s where Billings can help. The Baylor product is a powerful force and a true nose tackle. If he drops to Green Bay at No. 27 — which is anybody’s guess at this stage — then it’s an absolute no-brainer for Ted Thompson. Billings’ contributions against the run and as an interior pass rusher would give the defense an upgrade from day one.

Pairing Billings with Mike Daniels would be fun to watch, unless you play offense for the Vikings, Bears or Lions that is. There’s a lot of defensive line talent in this year’s class, but why not go after one of the best of the group?
