Ray Rivard: ILB Beniquez Brown, Mississippi State

Previous picks: DT Vernon Butler, TE Austin Hooper

The Packers have been in need for quality linebackers over the past several years and have to hit home with a pick or two at the position that is going to be an impact player. With Clay Matthews being moved back to the outside, the Packers’ need to solidify the inside could come with a guy like Beniquez Brown.

In 2015, Brown was a tough defender for the Bulldogs, recording 99 tackles – 11 of which were for a loss. He also had four sacks, two passes broken up and one interception. As a sophomore, he had 62 tackles and 39 as a freshman.

We feel Ted Thompson will go defense in the first round, tight end in the second and will be ready to go back to defense with his third pick. Brown could be that guy. If Thompson lands a linebacker in the third he could then concentrate on getting a couple of offensive linemen in the middle rounds – a place where he’s been successful in landing quality O-linemen.
