Round 2 (32): DT Kenny Clark, UCLA

Trading down is almost always a smart move, particularly when you are a team like Green Bay who don’t have a great deal of holes on the roster. Doing so allows you to take more swings of the bat, increasing the probability of hitting. In this case, the Packers don’t gain any picks, but by dropping down just four spots, they are able to switch a seventh for a fourth.

Cleveland might miss out on a quarterback with their first-round pick after trading away the No. 2 spot to Philadelphia. Jared Goff and Carson Wentz will be gone, and Paxton Lynch could be taken by San Francisco at No. 7. If there is a quarterback the Browns like at the bottom of the round — possibly Connor Cook — they might need to jump ahead of Arizona and Denver.

By dropping down four spots, the Packers can still take advantage of a deep group of defensive linemen with UCLA’s Kenny Clark. Clark highlights the depth at the position in this year’s class. While his interior pass rush needs development, he can help immediately as a run-stuffer and line up at multiple spots along the defensive line.
