What shape is Eddie Lacy in?

This question is somewhat exhausting by now, but it’s still just as relevant as it was when Mike McCarthy spoke about Eddie Lacy’s weight in his season-ending press conference. From the outside it certainly looks like Lacy has taken his coaches’ words to heart and focused on getting into his optimum fitness ahead of the offseason workouts.

Lacy’s weight held him back last season, limiting his explosiveness and ability to take good runs to the house. Just a small drop in percentage from his previous performances results in his production falling off a cliff as it did last term.

When Lacy is healthy and at his bruising best, defensive coordinators are forced into sleepless nights as they try and gameplan to stop the run and also prevent Aaron Rodgers from picking holes in coverage. When Lacy struggles for consistency, the offense doesn’t have to pay the same respect to the run as they once did, and there is a negative domino effect which runs throughout the entire offense.

Lacy’s return to form (or lack thereof) will be crucial for the fourth-year back, who is entering a contract year.
