Green Bay Packers: 2016 opponents who could be game-breakers
8. Cowboys Offensive Line
The fantasy community may be all wild about rookie first-round pick Ezekiel Elliott, but the engine that makes the Cowboys engine go is their band of big uglies up front.
Look around the league and you’ll be hard pressed to find another offensive line featuring three legitimate All-Pro-caliber blockers in the form of left tackle Tyron Smith, center Travis Frederick and right guard Zack Martin. That total can soon rise to four when you consider second-year guard La’el Collins’ tantalizing upside.
Despite an assortment of key injuries at quarterback and wide receiver in 2015, Dallas’ front five was the driving force behind the running attack’s 4.6 yard-per-carry average, which ranked third overall.
Although Green Bay made easy work of the Cowboys in Week 14 by limiting them to seven points, the Packers accomplished that feat against a criminally inept Matt Cassel, who couldn’t throw the ball into a construction dumpster if it were staring him straight in the face that day.
A healthy Tony Romo and the aforementioned Elliott will only make Big D’s O-line that much more formidable this time around.
One silver lining to that Week 6 matchup is the fact that Mike McCarthy’s crew will have defensive lineman Mike Pennel back in the fold from his four-week suspension. Will his return be enough to put a dent in Great Wall of Dallas? Stay tuned.
The October Dallas-Green Bay clash is one that every NFL fan should be circling on their calendars.
