Guards

Left guard: Lane Taylor

Right guard: –

Reserves: Don Barclay, Lucas Patrick

In the space of six months, the Packers lost a pair of Pro Bowl guards. Josh Sitton’s surprising release sent shockwaves through Packers News last September, but Lane Taylor stepped up in his spot.

Now someone must do the same at right guard, a spot vacated by T.J. Lang, the Detroit Lions’ newest lineman.

Maybe the Packers have faith in Don Barclay or Lucas Patrick. More likely, they turn to the draft in April. Ted has found a number of starting caliber linemen on day three, and he may need to again.

Verdict: It’s hard to imagine the Packers taking a guard early in the draft, but Thompson is as unpredictable as they come. He wasn’t afraid to break the norm and select a safety in the first round three years ago when the team desperately needed one.

At some point he’ll address the right guard spot, but can he find a day one starter?
