The case for inside linebacker in Round 1

This year’s inside linebacker class has been one of my favorite groups to study. Reuben Foster and Haason Reddick are special athletes, but they’ll most likely be gone by the time the Packers are on the clock.

Zach Cunningham and Jarrad Davis are also electric players who could be considered at the end of the first round. They would each bring athleticism, range, and playmaking ability to the middle of the Packers defense. They’re also both outstanding players in coverage, so they would be well worth the 29th overall pick, in my opinion.

However, despite all that they would bring to Green Bay’s roster, we know it’s not Thompson’s M.O. to take an inside linebacker in the first round. He probably won’t even take one on Day 2 for that matter.

Having said this, I would not complain in the least if Thompson broke the mold and took a game-changing inside backer in the first round.
