The Green Bay Packers regular season schedule is not yet official, but there are reports that, if all holds true, the Packers will open the season at home against the Seattle Seahawks and then go on the road in Week 2 to help the Atlanta Falcons open their brand new stadium.

Without nary a shot fired nor a schedule announced and the story lines are already forming in the heads of fans and writers who cover the teams.

First of all, let’s take a look at the season opener.

Forget the fact that it’s the first game of the season; forget the fact that Russell Wilson will once again be leading a strong Seattle contingent into Lambeau Field; and let’s forget the fact that the history between these two teams isn’t pretty.

All we will want to talk about is Eddie Lacy.

You all remember him? He’s the guy who opened his first season in the league with the Packers by winning rookie of the year and then following that inaugural season with a near mirror image.

Then the wheels began to fall off for Lacy. He got into trouble late in 2015, but it was eventually his weight issue that put him in jeopardy. Getting injured one-third of the way through the season in 2016 didn’t help, but it appeared a foregone conclusion that Lacy wouldn’t be back in 2017.

That became fact when he signed with the Seahawks.

So here we are facing Seattle in the first game of the season. Can you guess who the ball may go to on the Seahawks’ first play?

Yeah, me too.

It will no doubt be a classic beginning to another classic NFL season.

Not to be outdone, the reports are also saying that the Packers will hit the road to play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.

Not only will the Packers be helping the Falcons open their brand new stadium, but they will also be trying to upend the same team that crushed them in the 2016 NFC Championship Game just this past January.

Maybe Aaron Ripkowski will have a chance at the Packers’ first carry of 2016.

So, as we anticipate the announcement of the league schedule and the confirmation of these two games, we also anticipate all the buttonhooks, ins and outs, fly patterns, and post patterns that the season will throw at us.
