Eddie’s Homecoming: Packers vs. Seahawks, Week 1

Yeah, the Seahawks are a good team. Yeah, they make the playoffs most years. Yeah the have a lot of weapons on offense and defense.  Yeah, they have former Badger Russell Wilson at QB. Packers faithful remembers the “Fail Mary”. Now we can throw another log on to the fire in this intense match up in Lambeau this year: Eddie Lacy will back to play his former team.

Besides having great contests since 2003, where the Packers have an 8-4 advantage in the series. Both teams seem to be needing the win to get to the playoffs or to try to get a home field advantage for it. Emotions seem to really run high in these matchups. This year should be no different, and it happens in the opener.

This year Aaron Rodgers will not be handing the ball off to Eddie Lacy. The Packers will be trying to tackle him. A year ago we were getting excited to see what the new and improve slimmer Eddie Lacy was going to do. That chatter came to a screeching halt when Lacy injured his ankle and was put on injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Seemingly, during his ankle rehab Lacy’s weight ballooned back up and then some as he got up to 270 pounds, a presumed 35 pounds over his playing weight to start the season.

Through all of that Lacy was a fan favorite. His smile was contagious. When he was in his zone he made the Packers a more powerful and balanced team. He could plow over and through opposing defenses. It is a little sad to see him leave the team but the Packers made the right decision to let him go.

Now he gets a shot at revenge.

Russell Wilson is elusive and dangerous. Seattle’s defense is still menacing. The coaching staff knows how to win with what they have. Let’s just hope that they haven’t added another piece with their offseason RB addition.
