Bigger and faster at cornerback

In Davon House and Kevin King, the Packers can now feature two starting cornerbacks with size, length and the physicality to body up on receivers in press-man coverage.

House was miscast as a zone-coverage corner in his last season as a Jacksonville Jaguar and ultimately lost his starting job.

The Packers know all of the cover man’s strengths and deficiencies since they drafted him in the fourth round back in 2011. They will use him as a bump-and-run perimeter defender, where he will make sure that his adversaries will have to work to put up any numbers against him.

King, on the other hand, not only possesses extraordinary height at 6-foot-3, but has the athletic chops to turn his hips and shadow receivers all the way downfield.

His overall awareness and anticipatory skills should also see him get his hands on several balls thrown in his direction.

Last year’s disastrous tag-team duo of Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins will fight it out for the role of slot corner, while the physical, but slow-footed Ladarius Gunter won’t be counted on as much as the fourth or fifth corner seeing spot duty.

The key for success at this position is health since there is no real depth to speak of if one of the two starters should miss significant time.
