Brian Price isn’t a household name at this point for fans of the Green Bay Packers, but with the release of veteran defensive lineman Letroy Guion this week, the opportunity for the second-year player to make a name for himself has presented itself.

In fact, Brian Price may have been the biggest beneficiary of the Guion release. As an undrafted rookie last season, Price was constantly on the bubble of being released and making the 53-man roster.

He was cut at the end of training camp, was brought back just before the third season and got some reps on the field before being sent down to spend the rest of the season on the practice squad.

According to a story today over at Packers.com, Price tells about his goal to earn a spot on the roster and to get a locker room with the big guys.

“This year it’s a different game,” Price told packers.com. “I know what I have to lose now. I know what I have to gain. So I’m doing it by any means to get where I want to be, and that’s in the next locker room for a very long time.”

With one less body in front of his goal to earn a roster spot, Price is looking forward to the opportunity to continue to impress in practice, but even more so in preseason games.

Also battling along the defensive line this preseason are Mike Daniels,  Dean Lowry, Kenny Clark, and Ricky Jean Francois, veterans who are probably locks to make the team.

With the injury to rookie Montravius Adams and the release of Guion, Price seems like a piece to the puzzle who would help add depth and stability to a position that has been in flux the past couple of seasons.

“This is the time,” Price said. “I’m not sure about the PT [playing time] I’m going to get now or the last game, but I can assure you, when I go in there I’ll make the best of my plays. I have no choice. That’s the game plan for me.”

Price is also admired by his fellow D-linemen.

Here is what Francois said about the second-year player:

"“He’s explosive, strong, (doesn’t) get tired, But you could see him going 1,000 miles per hour, trying to think of so many things, and I’m just trying to help him break the game down, make it a lot slower and a lot simpler.”"

If there is a defensive lineman worthy of watching throughout the preseason, it will be Price.

His game efforts will be evaluated and he will be watched closely.

The Packers coaches like Price and have brought him along slowly.

However, his time is now.

Price knows it; the Packers coaches know it … and before long, he could be the one player out of training camp who has the potential to become a household name.
