Packers preseason 2017: Which wide receivers stay, who gets the boot
DeAngelo Yancey
After putting together a fairly non-descript camp, Yancey exploded during a recent early August practice that saw him get behind cornerbacks and make a number of difficult catches.
The fifth-round pick’s sudden ascent carried over to the Eagles’ game, where Yancey came down with a scintillating over-the shoulder 46-yard catch.
The pride of Atlanta, GA. beat his man by employing his superior straight-line burst to gain separation and completed the play by skillfully high-pointing the immaculately-thrown pass.
Though Yancey is far from a finished product as a pure route runner, he’s already big and strong enough to shield defenders along with being a natural hands catcher.
No. 16’s big frame and physicality make Yancey a quality blocker both as a receiver and a special-teams contributor.
He still has a ways to go, but the Big Ten import is starting to come on and will make team if he keeps up the momentum.
