3. Martinez makes his mark

Second-year man Blake Martinez delivered an inspired effort in Week 5 by quickly and forcefully attacking the ball in what was hands down the best showing of his NFL career.

Martinez totaled 12 tackles on the afternoon and was an omnipresent force from start to finish as he provided timely blitzes to thwart plays from their inception.

But he also limited potentially big gainers with his instincts to routinely place himself in the path of the ball carrier just as he did in keeping (Ezekiel) Elliott to 3 yards on a first-quarter carry that could have gone for 30.

The downhill hit man isn’t quite as natural in dropping back in pass coverage and may never fully develop that part of his game. But the Arizona native’s quickness and physicality make him an essential defensive piece who’s only scratching the surface of his upside.
