We spoke to Dane Brugler of NFL Draft Scout to take a closer look at potential Green Bay Packers target, Iowa cornerback Joshua Jackson.

The regular season is over and the Green Bay Packers did not make the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Now it’s time to look ahead at the offseason, specifically the 2018 NFL Draft and examine possible first round draft prospects that can shape the future of the Packers.

Today, we look at Iowa cornerback Joshua Jackson.

The junior officially declared for the draft on Wednesday after having a phenomenal season with the Hawkeyes.

Jackson led the nation with eight interceptions, had 18 passes broken up, tied for third and compiled 48 tackles.

He was one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the best defensive back in the nation.

The Texas native got serious recognition after the Hawkeyes upset the Ohio State Buckeyes 55-24, recording three interceptions.

His impeccable one-handed interception will be on loop when discussing the projected first round pick.

Jackson followed up his three-interception game with two more against the Wisconsin Badgers the following week, both returned for touchdowns.

The 6-1 defensive back will be a first-round pick and is the number one corner in the draft according to CBS Sports.

I spoke with Dane Brugler, Senior NFL Draft Analyst for NFLDraftScout, for more insight about Jackson.

“For Jackson, it was all about opportunity,” Brugler said. “With only one start his first three seasons on campus, he didn’t have a chance to show what he could do. But once he became a full-time starter this past season, it was evident from the season opener that he was going to have a big season.”

What are his strengths?

“Very good height/length for the position. NFL ball skills with the body control and adjustment skills to make natural plays on the ball – experimented on offense earlier in his career at Iowa so this wasn’t a big surprise. Always alert and does a great job tracking the eyes of the QB. Not afraid to take chances, baiting and jumping throws.”

What are his weaknesses?

“Overaggressive at times and will arrive early at the catch point. Tackling needs major improvement.”

Jackson clearly possesses the attributes of a solid cornerback and his strengths outweigh his weaknesses.

Despite the Packers using last year’s first draft pick on a defensive back (Kevin King), the unit remains a liability and needs improvement.

Jackson should be available when the Packers are on the clock and a player of his caliber could help give the secondary the boost that they need.
