Packers: Davante Adams ranks high in Bleacher Report NFL1000 series
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams continues to receive praise for his great year.
Davante Adams’ excellent season earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl, and the Green Bay Packers star comes in at No. 11 in the Bleacher Report “NFL1000” wide receiver rankings.
Adams caught 74 passes for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns, despite missing two games and playing most of the year with Brett Hundley in at quarterback, and not two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.
On top of that, Adams established himself as the Packers’ No. 1 wide receiver. He was far and away the top target for Hundley, surpassing Jordy Nelson as the team’s top pass catcher.
Bleacher Report has been ranking the top players in the league at each position in their “NFL1000” series.
Adams came in at No. 11 at wide receiver, narrowly missing out on the top-10. Adams ranked above the likes of Alshon Jeffery and Marvin Jones, but was one place behind A.J. Green.
You can find the full rankings here. Here’s what the scouts had to say about Adams’ season:
"“After a rough two years to start his career, Adams has become the Packers’ most reliable receiver over the past two seasons. Having struggled with drops and creating consistent separation, Adams played some of his best football in the second half of 2017 without Aaron Rodgers.”"
Adams has caught 22 touchdowns over the past two seasons, which was a big reason why he was handed a four-year, $58 million extension. Former general manager Ted Thompson didn’t want his premier receiver to get anywhere near free agency in March.
Had Adams played all 16 games this year, he was on pace for 1,011 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2016, his last full season with a healthy Rodgers, he finished with 997 yards and 12 scores.
The fourth-year receiver has a big future with the Packers. Selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Thompson hoped Adams would replace departing James Jones in the short term and potentially become the successor to Nelson down the line.
