Green Bay Packers 2018 roster review: Geronimo Allison
Looking back at Geronimo Allison’s 2017 season, and what we can expect from the Green Bay Packers wide receiver in the future.
Few expected Geronimo Allison to make the Green Bay Packers‘ roster his first season, but he went on to become a trusted pass catcher in Mike McCarthy’s offense.
He deservedly returned for a second season, and again added depth.
Let’s take a look back at his 2017 season.
Season in review
In reality, Allison’s 2017 season will be remembered for two things.
First was his six-catch, 122-yard performance in the Packers’ overtime victory over the Bengals. The second will be his costly fumble at Carolina that ended Green Bay’s season.
The latter moment is a little harsh. It was just one mistake in an otherwise solid game for the second-year pass catcher.
Allison finished the season with 253 yards, but failed to find the end zone. Statistically it was a similar season to his rookie year. In 2016 he tallied 202 yards and two touchdowns.
With Davante Adams, Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb ahead of him on the depth chart, Allison was little more than a depth option at receiver. But he’s proved he can fill in when required. Aaron Rodgers isn’t afraid to throw him the football.
Looking ahead to 2018 season
Allison is an exclusive rights free agent this offseason. If the Packers want him back, they can ensure he returns. There’s absolutely no reason why Mike McCarthy and Brian Gutekunst wouldn’t want Allison to return for a third season.
The 6-foot-3 receiver offers good depth at the position, understands the offense and has some chemistry with Rodgers. Keeping him around won’t have much of an impact on the salary cap, but he can be leaned on if the Packers need him to play more snaps.

For that reason, expect Allison to return and take on a similar role to the one he’s held for the past two seasons.
