The latest FanSided mock draft has the Green Bay Packers selecting Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward at No. 14.

The Green Bay Packers have a need at the cornerback position, and it’s entirely possible new general manager Brian Gutekunst looks for an upgrade when the team hits the clock at No. 14 in April’s draft.

A player they could seriously consider is Ohio State defensive back Denzel Ward. Ward could give the secondary a major boost, working alongside last year’s second-round pick Kevin King.

Iowa’s Josh Jackson has been a popular choice to Green Bay among draft analysts this offseason, which was evident in our latest mock draft roundup, but FanSided’s Brad Weiss has the Packers picking Ward over Jackson.

Here’s what Weiss wrote about the selection:

"“Ward comes from cornerback U, as the Buckeyes have developed some of the best cornerback talent in college football in recent years. The speedy Ward has just as much talent as guys like Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley, both of which were picked in the first round in 2017.”"

Weiss makes note of New Orleans corner Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore helped transform the Saints’ defense this season, helping turn them not only into a playoff team, but also legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Like the Saints, the Packers need a few pieces on defense to become a heavyweight in the NFC once again. Ward could provide immediate help in Mike Pettine’s defense.

Gutekunst will have a number of options at No. 14, Green Bay’s highest pick since 2009 and his first selection as general manager.

Finding another talented edge rusher is also high on the priority list. It wouldn’t be a surprise for the Packers to address that need early in the draft.

If they go cornerback, Ward could be one of the top targets.

Lombardi Ave’s Dan Dahlke had the Packers landing Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds in the first round of his latest seven-round mock draft. Edmunds would bring versatility to Green Bay’s defense.
