The Green Bay Packers desperately need an explosive edge rusher. Can Tremaine Edmunds be the guy that breaks through as the next top linebacker in Green Bay?

Tremaine Edmunds is a 6-foot-5, 250-pound versatile and intelligent linebacker coming out of Virginia Tech. He’s one of the most explosive edge rushers going into the draft.

Edmunds brings the right amount pressure to scare the QB into making unwise decisions. Edmunds is overall, a very scary player to watch out for. The biggest question though is, should the Packers take advantage of this?

Not only is Tremaine tall which can be intimidating to quarterbacks, but he’s a very big guy and has been described as a “excellent blitzer” from critics, and they are not wrong by any stretch of the imagination.

In 2017 Edmunds won ACC Linebacker of The Week (11/27), started every game of the season, and recorded 109 tackles, which included 14 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. This all eventually lead to him earning First-Team All-ACC.

What makes Tremaine so good is his ability to blitz the quarterback, and bring the pressure to the line of scrimmage, which is exactly what Green Bay is looking for in 2018. Here’s a prominent example of Edmunds ability.

This play truly shows you his ability to make the stop happen before they even know he’s coming.

Edmunds doesn’t come without his weaknesses of course, which are at times slowing down, or just being a little misguided on the field.

These issues have easy fixes that new defensive coordinator Mike Pettine should have absolutely no problem with.

The Packers already have a great core of young linebackers along with veteran Clay Matthews. But with the addition of a player like Edmunds could really bring this pass rush to the promised land in 2018.
