Defensive linemen

Green Bay’s defensive line is the strongest part of the entire defense. With a trio of Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark and Muhammad Wilkerson leading the way, Packers fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the d-line, especially with Mike Pettine taking over as defensive coordinator.

Adding another lineman in the first round wouldn’t address a big need on that side of the ball, but Gutekunst could still consider it if a talent like Vita Vea fell. The Packers met with Vea on Friday, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jon Dove of With the First Pick: Vita Vea, Washington

Jon Dove of With the First Pick has Vea heading to Packers News in his latest mock draft. While this wouldn’t fix a bigger weakness on defense, Vea’s arrival could ensure the Packers have a top-five defensive line in 2018.

Pettine would have a ton of talent, and depth, to work with along the line. That would be good news for the run defense, and the pass rush would also receive a boost with some more interior pressure.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compared Vea to five-time Pro Bowler Haloti Ngata:

"“Vea has the size and power to play nose in an odd or even front and he could be targeted by 3-4 teams looking for dominant run defender on the end. He should work into a defensive line rotation immediately and has the ability to become a good NFL starter for years.”"
