Packers: Tremaine Edmunds at No. 14 in latest mock draft
The latest NFL Mocks mock draft sees linebacker Tremaine Edmunds falling all the way to the Green Bay Packers at No. 14.
This mock draft has five quarterbacks going before the Packers. Most years that would sound unrealistic, but it’s a very real possibility this time. Considering the talent at the position and number of teams in need of a quarterback, it could happen.
Any time a quarterback is selected ahead of Green Bay, it will be music to the ears of new general manager Brian Gutekunst. All this means is more defensive talent falls closer to the Packers’ pick at No. 14.
Sayre Bedinger of NFL Mocks has Tremaine Edmunds falling to the Packers in his latest mock draft:
"“Though Roquan Smith was selected sixth overall, Edmunds gets pushed down the board a little bit because he plays off-ball linebacker, and that position is not often prioritized as highly as it ought be.Edmunds is a rare type of player with a freakish 6-foot-5, nearly 260 pound frame, and incredible speed, range, and instincts.”"
Edmunds has the potential to be a star in the NFL, and I’d love to see him play in Mike Pettine’s defense. Whether paired inside with Blake Martinez or used to pressure the quarterback off the edge, Edmunds would bring plenty of skills to the Green Bay defense.
Edmunds doesn’t even necessarily need to fall all the way to No. 14 for him to become a Packer.
Gutekunst has proven already this offseason that he’s willing to be aggressive. If Edmunds is still on the board when the Raiders pick at 10 or the Dolphins at 11, it’s possible Gutekunst will attempt to trade up. Maybe it’d be for Edmunds, or perhaps a top cornerback like Denzel Ward.
If the real draft plays out like this mock draft, few could complain. Landing a player with the potential of Edmunds without needing to give up any additional draft picks in a trade would be huge for the Packers.
