Packers mock draft: Top needs addressed in three-round mock
The Packers will likely add another wide receiver at some stage. If Anthony Miller is still available in the third round, it’s a move Gutekunst should make.
Despite signing Jimmy Graham, who should really be considered a wide receiver, the Packers will be searching for another young pass catcher.
Between Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison and Graham, the Packers have a solid group of receivers. Add in Ty Montgomery, who will line up all over the place, and there’s plenty to be excited about. But think of it this way: Graham is 31 and was a risky signing. Cobb is entering the final year of his contract and has been inconsistent in recent years.
That’s where Miller comes in, giving the Packers a perfect complement to Adams. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote about how teams view Miller in a column last month:
"“Alabama’s Calvin Ridley is widely considered the top wide receiver in this draft, with Maryland’s D.J. Moore starting to pick up steam with teams. However, I’ve spoken to clubs that feel Memphis’ Anthony Miller could be one of the safer prospects at the position.”"
In three rounds, the Packers have addressed the secondary, pass rush and wide receiver position. As no trades were made, they still have nine picks on Day 3.
If the Packers leave Day 2 of the draft with Fitzpatrick, Carter and Miller, it can be considered a strong start by Gutekunst.
