The rookies

Now we move on to the three rookies the Packers took in the draft.

I’ll begin with my personal favorite of the group: Equanimeous St. Brown. He had to deal with some quarterback inconsistency the two past years at Notre Dame, but was still the undisputed WR1 for the Irish.

He put up some eye-opening numbers in 2016, but took a little bit of a step back in 2017. However, I think the quarterback inconsistency that Notre Dame went through had a lot to do with this slight drop in efficiency. This was likely the reason why St. Brown fell all the way to the sixth round.

I think the Packers taking St. Brown when they did was a very good value pick. By the way, his physical attributes are pretty impressive (6-foot-5, 214 pounds).

Next up is J’Mon Moore, the 6-foot-3, fourth-round draft pick out of Missouri. Through his college career, Moore ran into some struggles with dropping the ball, a problem all too familiar for Packers fans. However, he improved on this a lot in his final year, and finished his senior year with a total of 1,082 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Moore’s biggest strength lies within his physicality, punishing and running over smaller defensive backs. I think he’ll make the team in September.

The third wideout the Packers took in the draft was Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The rookie out of USF is really fast, and that’s an understatement.

His speed is his best attribute. Valdes-Scantling was a track state champion in high school. He also ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Though I currently don’t think he’ll end up making the team, Valdes-Scantling could possibly use that speed to make himself a special teams player.
