The Green Bay Packers are one of the only teams in the NFL not to make the trip to London during the regular season. When could it finally happen?

As a Packers fan based in the United Kingdom, each year the team doesn’t visit is disappointing. Eventually it will happen, but when?

It’s understandable why fans in Green Bay could be concerned about a potential game across the pond. What if the Packers had to give up a game at Lambeau Field? Thankfully, the odds of that happening are close to zero. If we ever see this team playing across the pond, it’ll be in their road jerseys.

Packers president Mark Murphy has said on many occasions that he would love the team to play in London. But getting another team to agree hasn’t been easy. As Packers fans travel so well, opposing teams have been unwilling to play Green Bay in the UK, as they see it as a great opportunity to sell out their home stadium.

But the NFL eventually wants every team to play an International Series game. This year, three of the six teams yet to play in London — the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans — will all make the trip. That just leaves the Packers, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans.

So when is the next realistic possibility for Green Bay to play a game in London?

The 2019 season seems to be unlikely. Outside of the three division opponents, Green Bay will play Dallas, Kansas City, the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers on the road.

Can you see any of these teams giving up a home game? I can’t. Of those teams, the Chargers would be the most likely.

If the Jacksonville Jaguars move their franchise to London permanently, it would guarantee a Packers game in the UK in the future. Until then, one has to assume opposing teams will do all they can to avoid it.
