Future Five

Calvin Ridley (Atlanta Falcons): Ridley landed in a perfect spot. In Atlanta, he will be with his mentor Julio Jones and won’t have the pressure of being the number one receiver like he could have been if he went earlier in the draft.

This is a guy who dominated college football last year with Jalen Hurts as his quarterback. That’s all you need to know.

Cooper Kupp (Los Angeles Rams): I think Kupp will be on this list in the next year or two, but I didn’t feel super confident putting him on the main list quite yet.

The combination of him and Brandin Cooks has the potential to light up the league this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if those two become the best receiving tandem in football in a few years.

James Washington (Pittsburgh Steelers): Washington won’t light up the league from day one, but in a few years he could. Washington is a big receiver who Steelers fans should be excited about. I think he will be able to help a lot in the red zone.

Kevin Colbert and the Steelers front office are probably the best people in the league when it comes to drafting receivers (I would put Green Bay at a close second). If they think Washington is a future starter, I have a really hard time betting against them.

DJ Chark (Jacksonville Jaguars): Chark was my favorite receiver in this year’s draft class, and I think he is a good replacement for Allen Robinson. The Jaguars made a gutsy move letting Robinson walk in free agency, but I think they found a future number one receiver who is better on special teams than Robinson.

Anthony Miller (Chicago Bears): I really like the Miller pick by the Bears. He didn’t play at a big-time school, and that could have caused him to be overlooked some by scouts. Miller is a tall receiver who has the potential to beat out Kevin White for the number two spot. Mitchell Trubisky should be thrilled with this pick.
