Green Bay Packers 2018 roster preview: Aaron Rodgers
Will Aaron Rodgers lead the Green Bay Packers to another Super Bowl in 2018?
It’s been eight long years since the Green Bay Packers‘ last trip to the Super Bowl. Now is the perfect time to make a return.
Key to that is Aaron Rodgers. The two-time MVP is returning from his second broken collarbone in five years. His ability to extend plays is what makes him so great, but it also puts him at additional risk of injury.
Here’s a preview of Rodgers’ 2018 season.
2017 stats
Rodgers only played in seven games last season. In that time, he threw for 1,675 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. His interception tally was much higher than you’d expect. Three of them came in his return game against the Carolina Panthers. Rodgers understandably was slightly off his game after missing half the season.
2017 review
Rodgers’ 2017 season receives an “incomplete” grade. He played beautifully in the win at Dallas a week before he got hurt. The Packers were in a healthy position at 4-1, with their sights set firmly on the postseason.
But one play in Minnesota changed everything. The Packers won just three more games all season and missed out on the playoffs. That led to the departure of Ted Thompson as general manager. Mike McCarthy had a coaching staff shakeup, and new GM Brian Gutekunst took on a more aggressive approach to the offseason than we had seen with Thompson.
For Rodgers, 2017 will always be a season of “what-ifs”. What if Rodgers had played all 16 games? Would he have gone on to win a third league MVP award? Would the Packers have won 10 or more games?
Odds of making roster: 100 percent
Barring an injury over the summer, Rodgers is making the roster. Call it a hot take, but I’m predicting Aaron Rodgers makes the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster.
2018 preview
Fully healthy, Rodgers will look to pick up where he left off before breaking his collarbone last season.
The two-time MVP is the key to the Packers’ Super Bowl ambitions. If he’s playing at his best, the Packers will be one of the best teams in the NFC. If Rodgers doesn’t play well or gets injured again, forget about it.
Rodgers has had more than enough time to fully recover from his injury, and will be ready to go Week 1 barring a new injury.

While the Packers did improve their roster this season — on paper at least — the team will only go as far as Aaron Rodgers can take them.
