Round 6: Demetri Goodson, CB, Baylor

Despite Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, and Davon House leading the Green Bay Packers’ group of cornerbacks, there was still a need for depth at the position.

Goodson was someone who started his college career playing basketball at Gonzaga, and after three seasons, he transferred to Baylor to play football again. So his lack of experience drove his draft stock down to the point where many scouts looked at him as a free agent acquisition.

Despite that, the Packers decided to take a chance on the former basketball player and selected him with their sixth-round draft pick.

His first two seasons were about what you’d expect from a sixth-round pick. He didn’t play much and the time he did get on the field was on special teams or other rare instances. In 2016, Goodson was suspended for the first four games and his season would end on IR. He was injured again and missed the entire 2017 season.

Goodson’s future depends on how well he performs this offseason. The Packers have added two rookies and have brought back Tramon Williams. He has been pushed down the depth chart. If Goodson can’t prove his worth this offseason, he may be gone for good.

Round 7: Jeff Janis, WR, Saginaw Valley State

Jeff Janis‘ time in Green Bay has been nothing short of interesting. He was a speedy but raw talent coming out of the draft. Much like Goodson, the Packers took a chance by using a draft pick in hopes he would develop into a key contributor down the road.

There was no denying his speed, however catching the ball needed to be worked on. His one defining play came on the receiving end of another Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary.

Other than that, and the time fans called for Janis to play over a struggling Davante Adams, Janis didn’t do much.

Janis was a great option to use on special teams. His speed was put to good use as a gunner during punt formations, but he wasn’t able to contribute in any other way. Maybe it is because he was never given a true opportunity.

Either way, Janis has signed with the Cleveland Browns and his days in Green Bay are over.
