What can we expect from Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver J’Mon Moore in 2018?

After releasing Jordy Nelson in March, the Green Bay Packers used three draft picks on wide receivers. The first was J’Mon Moore in the fourth round.

The Packers will be hoping Moore can become a starter in the future.

Odds of making roster: 95 percent

There is a lot of competition for places at wide receiver. With Davante Adams and Randall Cobb set, there are around four spots available on the 53-man roster.

Along with Adams and Cobb, Geronimo Allison is almost a guarantee to make the roster. That only leaves a few spots. Rookies Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown will compete with Trevor Davis, Michael Clark and DeAngelo Yancey to make the roster.

Of the Packers’ three rookies, Moore has the best chance of securing a place on the 53-man roster.

2018 preview

Moore has the potential to become the Packers’ second wide receiver on the depth chart behind Adams in the future.

Interestingly, Moore has actually been compared to Adams on a number of occasions. Zach Kruse of Packers Wire wrote an article back in May, drawing comparisons between the new teammates. The two have a lot of similarities to their games, especially in their release off the line of scrimmage.

The question now is how quickly can Moore transition to the NFL game? Will he overtake Geronimo Allison on the depth chart and become a starter on the outside with Adams? I believe he’s the most likely of the rookie receivers to become a starter in 2018.

Moore could have more opportunities as a rookie than Adams did back in 2014. That year, both Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb hit the 1,000-yard mark, limiting Adams’ opportunities.

That likely won’t be the same issue for Moore this year. While Adams could go on to hit 1,000 yards for the first time in his career, it’s hard to see Allison doing the same.

We’ll see how quickly Adams is progressing next month at training camp. Maybe one of the other young receivers on the roster, like Michael Clark, will step up and earn a bigger role on offense. Perhaps one of the other draft picks, Valdes-Scantling or St. Brown, will earn a higher spot on the depth chart than Moore.

Time will tell. But I like Moore’s potential.
