Packers in top 10 of latest FanSided NFL power rankings
The Green Bay Packers are at No. 7 in the latest FanSided power rankings.
The latest FanSided power rankings are in.
As training camp kicks off around the league and the offseason almost reaches its conclusion, the countdown to the new season is well underway.
Matt Verderame of FanSided has put together his latest NFL power rankings, and he has the Green Bay Packers at No. 7.
Here is what Verderame wrote about Green Bay:
"“The Packers don’t have one of the league’s better rosters, but Aaron Rodgers forces them into the top 10. If Rodgers stays upright, the Packers are a threat in every game.”"
Aaron Rodgers is the biggest difference maker in football. Without him, the Packers failed to make the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade, and it led to a number of changes in Green Bay, from the general manager to Mike McCarthy’s coaching staff.
Verderame certainly makes a good point in his article, but I would argue the roster has a lot of upside.
We know how good the offense can be. As well as Rodgers, the Packers have an elite left tackle, and emerging star at wide receiver and a talented trio of running backs. They’ve now added Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis to form a strong tight end pairing, and drafted three fast, athletic wide receivers who all have the potential to become important players for the Packers.
The team’s biggest issue for a number of years has been the defense. But the unit is moving in the right direction.
First, the defensive line is one of the league’s best. Mike Daniels has been playing at an elite level for years, and third-year Kenny Clark is very close to it. That’s before we include free agent signing Muhammad Wilkerson.
The concerns are in the secondary, particularly at cornerback. But new GM Brian Gutekunst made it a priority to get better at corner, selecting two of the top players at the position in April’s draft: Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson. He also brought back Tramon Williams in free agency.
It will take time, but the two rookies, along with second-year Kevin King, could form a strong cornerback trio in the coming years.

Seventh in the power rankings is fair for the Packers, but in time they could be much higher.
